The first stage of The GROW Model is to agree with your team member what goal they want to achieve. LetвЂ™s examine each of the stages in more detail. Essentially, this stage is about committing to what will happen and when. Once youвЂ™ve decided where you want to go and from where the next step is to investigate the options for the journey (Options), for example, is flying best and if so which airline is best for you? Finally, you must commit to starting to take action (way forward) to ensure the trip happens, for example, getting time off work if necessary, booking a hotel etc. First, you must decide where you would like to go (your goal) from your current location (your current reality). The term role model draws on two prominent theoretical constructs: the concept of role and the tendency of individuals to identify with other people occupying important social roles, and the concept of modeling, the psychological matching of cognitive skills and patterns of behavior between a person and an observing individual.

The traditional idea of a role model is that of a person in an influential role position, such as a parent, teacher, supervisor or mentor, who provides an example for individuals to imitate. It argues that the role model construct has not been a substantial focus of organizational research because it has been inconsistently used and loosely defined.
